A new family of caecilians, the most enigmatic branch of the amphibians, has been discovered in northeastern India.
The animals, which at first glance resemble worms, live in forest soil and are most closely related to an African group of caecilians.
The females incubate their young for several months without eating.

Marie Colvin, the veteran Sunday Times war correspondent, has been killed in the besieged Syrian city of Homs, triggering suspicions that a makeshift media centre was deliberately targeted by regime forces.
Colvin, an American reporter for the British newspaper, and photographer Remi Ochlik both died in the attack, the French government said.

Bangalore: The Reserve Bank is not opposed to the State Bank of India extending support to the cash-strapped Kingfisher Airlines, the central bank’s deputy governor KC Chakrabarty said today.

Kolkata, Feb 22 (IANS) Two Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leaders, including a former legislator, were killed in a clash in Burdwan district of West Bengal Wednesday, police said.
Pradip Ta, who earlier represented Burdwan North, and district committee member Kamal Gayen were lynched in the clash in Dewandighi.
